Tobacco is one of the most grown plants in Zimbabwe. It is called a golden leaf but what happens to the tobacco that is farmed every year in Zimbabwe. From the herald report of 12th March it reveals that the action flours has sold more than 26 million dollars to the farmers and has received more than 5.2 million kg of tobacco. One should ask where is the tobacco going and who does it benefit.Suppose it is imported and then manufactured into different kind of cigarettes. The question remains who is benefiting from the cigarettes. One can analyze that in Zimbabwe the rate of lung cancer is high because we farm the tobacco more than maize that gives life to many human beings. There are few vegetables and fruit farmers in Zimbabwe. An apple in the market today cost more than 2 Rands hence a cigarette cost 0.50c.Farmers need money therefore turn to the golden or the money maker leaf which brings hazardness in our bodies. Many people suffer from lung cancer some from other diseases caused by tobacco .Tobacco reduces people's life expectancy. The farming of tobacco reduce the fertility of the soil , where tobacco is farmed when a farmer wants to farm other plants the farmer should abandon the land for some years so that it gains fertility.Farmers in Zimbabwe grow tobacco more than maize .One can encourage Zimbabweans that we mighty need money from the golden leaf but it has many disadvantages both on the environment and from human beings.
